The method

The Altitude Mindset Framework™

Five stages that take you from noticing the pattern to living without it. Every coaching engagement follows this arc — so you always know which stage you’re in and what it’s for.

Why a framework at all

Because insight on its own doesn’t hold.

Most people don’t need another realisation. They have plenty. What they’re missing is a route from the realisation to a different response, and a way to tell whether it’s working.

Aviation runs on that principle. You don’t handle a difficult situation well because you feel calm about it — you handle it because you’ve been through a defined process enough times that it runs without your permission. The Altitude Mindset Framework applies the same logic to the patterns running your behaviour.

The five stages

What happens at each stage.

Recognize — Name the pattern.

Most people arrive describing a situation — a manager, a partner, a decision they can’t make. The situation is real, but it isn’t the thing that keeps repeating.

We work backwards from the moment it goes wrong: what fired first, what you told yourself, what you did next. By the end of this stage you can name the pattern out loud. That alone changes how much power it has.

  • The specific trigger, not the general story
  • The belief sitting underneath the reaction
  • Where and when it was installed
  • What it has been protecting you from

Reframe — Challenge the interpretation.

A limiting belief is rarely a lie. It’s usually a conclusion you drew from something that genuinely happened — and then never revisited.

We take the conclusion apart and test it against everything you know now. Not positive thinking. Accurate thinking: what else was true, what you have since done that contradicts it, what a fairer reading looks like.

  • Separate the event from the meaning you gave it
  • Find the counter-evidence you have been discounting
  • Build an interpretation that survives scrutiny
  • Notice where the old one still tries to run

Reset — Change your state on purpose.

You can understand a pattern completely and still lose to it, because in the moment the emotional state arrives faster than the insight.

This is the stage aviation taught me most about. Under pressure, people don’t rise to the occasion — they fall to their level of practice. So we practise: concrete techniques to interrupt a spiralling state and get back to a clear one, deliberately, in seconds.

  • Recognise the state early, while it is still small
  • Interrupt the spiral before it completes
  • Return to a resourceful state on demand
  • Hold it while the pressure is still there

Rewire — Build the new response.

Removing a pattern leaves a gap. If nothing fills it, the old one comes back — it’s well-practised, and it’s fast.

Using practical NLP techniques — anchoring, pattern interrupts, working with your representational systems — we build a specific replacement response and rehearse it until it becomes the thing that fires first.

  • Design the response you actually want
  • Rehearse it until it is automatic
  • Anchor it to the real trigger
  • Test it against a situation that used to catch you

Rise — Make it how you operate.

The point isn’t a good session. The point is that six weeks later, the thing that used to derail you is simply not a problem any more.

We take the new response into live situations, review what actually happened, and adjust. This stage ends when you no longer need me for it.

  • Apply it where the stakes are real
  • Review honestly, adjust deliberately
  • Build consistency, not intensity
  • Leave with tools you can run yourself

How long does the whole arc take?

It depends on how deep the belief runs and how big the goal is — I won’t pretend there’s a fixed number. What I can tell you is that meaningful shifts typically start showing within about four sessions, and that you’ll know which stage you’re in the whole way through.

Ready when you are

Ready to change the pattern?

You don’t have to keep operating from the same beliefs, reactions and patterns. Start with a conversation — it costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
