As AI has made its way into our emails, captions and articles, I somehow realised something important.
AI is the best friend who always tries to lift you — by enhancing your emails, your letters, your posts.
But understand this: whenever you see a post that might have been enhanced by AI, it cannot replace the initial prompt — the thought — that was given to put the message into words in the first place.
Here's what people misunderstand about AI-enhanced writing.
They see polished prose and think: That's not real. That's not authentic. That's AI.
But they're missing the most important part.
The thought came from a human.
AI didn't decide:
- That I needed to write about losing my voice in debt
- That I failed a friend a decade ago
- That silence killed a relationship I cared about
- That my family's broken promises still hurt
I did.
AI didn't feel the weight of those words. I did.
AI didn't sit with the pain, the questions, the spiral of thoughts trying to make sense of it all. I did.
What AI actually does is this.
It takes the tangled mess in my head — the raw, unfiltered, capitalised chaos of emotion — and helps me shape it into something others can receive.
It doesn't replace my voice. It amplifies it.
Think of it like this: when you have a conversation with a good friend, they listen to you ramble, and then they say, "So what you're really saying is..."
And suddenly, the fog clears. Your thought becomes focused. Your feeling becomes words.
That's what AI does. It's not writing for you. It's helping you write better.
The initial prompt — that's sacred.
That's the raw human experience. That's the pain, the confusion, the hope, the regret. That's the thought that matters.
AI can't create that. AI doesn't feel that.
Only you do.
What AI gives you is:
- Structure, when your thoughts are spiralling
- Clarity, when your emotions are too big for words
- Grammar, when your message matters more than perfect punctuation
- Flow, when you know what you want to say but not how to say it
But the what — that's all you.
So when you see a post that's been enhanced by AI, don't dismiss it as "not real."
Ask yourself instead: what was the human struggling to say?
Because behind every AI-polished sentence is a person who needed help putting their truth into words. And there's no shame in that.
I've been using AI to write these pieces.
I give it my tangled thoughts — full of capitals, fragments, unfinished sentences, raw emotion. And it helps me shape them into something I can share without losing the core of what I'm trying to say.
But the core? The debt. The broken promises. The lost friendships. The silence. That's mine.
AI didn't create those stories. It just helped me tell them.
To anyone who thinks AI is replacing human writing: it's not. It's lifting it.
It's taking the thoughts we struggle to articulate and helping us say them clearly. It's being the friend who says, "I hear you. Let me help you say this better."
And to anyone using AI to write: don't apologise for it.
Your thoughts are still yours. Your pain is still real. Your voice is still authentic. AI is just the tool that helps you be heard.
The initial prompt cannot be replaced. That's the truth AI will never touch.
The thought. The feeling. The why behind the words.
That's human. And that's what matters most.
